No Cure for Being Human: (And Other Truths I Need to Hear) Free Audiobook Download by Kate Bowler

The year was 2010. A group of friends had invited me to their home in the country for a weekend of wine, women's company, and male bonding. I didn't know any of them well except one. She was a woman who happened to be my boss, so maybe I should say that she was my boss's wife- rather than a woman who happened to be my boss. She wasn't the type of person you'd expect to see at a party with five men, but then again, this wasn't really a party-I don't think it started out as one.

Kate Bowler's memoir doesn't just take a critical view on how Americans feel about current events. She goes through the most common feelings people have and explains how they affect your health physically and emotionally. For example, she explains how depression leads to weight loss and causes the body to fight back in other ways that can lead to more hardship.

[Kate Bowler's] faith and life is a testament to one thing: there is no cure for being human. The author is brutally honest, writing with the honesty that comes from experience. Her recounting of her own struggles--from physical abuse to pregnancy to addiction--is inspiring and compelling. Kate Bowler's voice, which matches the book's tone perfectly, gives listeners an intimate look into a broken world where she finds peace in God.

"The idea that we are perfect is a lie," Bowler says in the opening chapter of her book. "There is no such thing as a perfect body, or a perfect life." She then goes on to suggest how we can change our perspective and begin living happily even if there is not complete freedom from disease, death, and other natural occurrences.

I didn't want to read this book. I did want to listen to it, and then stay up late at night reading it. I'm on the first page of Chapter One and I don't know if I can go on. But the narrator is unbelievably good in this audiobook, so much so that she's getting me through the tough ones. The writing is just beautiful. This is going to be a five-star-reviewed book for sure.

Kate Bowler's "No Cure for Being Human" audiobook is a wonderful, informative, and honest look into some of the struggles many people face with mental illness. The audiobook focuses on the emotional and physical toll that mental illness takes on many lives, as well as how to combat it.
