Justice on the Brink: The Death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the Rise of Amy Coney Barrett, and Twelve Months That Transformed the Supreme Court Free Audiobook Download by Linda Greenhouse

Just for the record, I listened to this book on my iPhone with the Audible app. Probably not the best option, but so be it. The author covers a lot of ground in this book. She talks about Ruth Bader Ginsburg's affinity for opera, her dislike of broccoli and her devotion to feminism, which might have been a contributing factor in her election as part of the first time women were elected to the Supreme Court following 240 years of male-only justices. Throughout this audiobook, there is a lot of historical information that I learned from reading the book, which I found very interesting.

Justice on the Brink is an account of the twelve months in which a conservative judge and a liberal judge were appointed to the Supreme Court. In 2015, Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Antonin Scalia died and with the vacancy, President Obama appointed Judge Merrick Garland. Judge Barrett was nominated by Trump who then appointed Neil Gorsuch when confirmation hearings began for his seat. The book includes important analysis about how these appointments changed the court's policy concerning abortion rights and affirmative action. The audiobook is narrated by Beth Hicks.

The United States Supreme Court is often described as the court for the "people," but it's also a highly political institution. Sometimes, politics has been responsible for making or breaking judicial careers. But when do politics and judges overlap in such a way that they no longer support legitimacy? Justice on the Brink: The Death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the Rise of Amy Coney Barrett, and Twelve Months That Transformed the Supreme Court explores those questions.

[Greenhouse's] detailed look at the personalities, politics, and culture of the Supreme Court in 12 months is a must-read for every American who cares about the law.

Justice on the Brink has a unique perspective. The book explores the last year of Ruth Bader Ginsburg's life and her nomination as Associate Justice for the United States Supreme Court. Linda Greenhouse, who read this audiobook, beautifully captures the tension between Ginsburg's monumental significance to the progress of women in American society and her commitment to maintaining a conservative court.

Justice on the Brink is a book about the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and perhaps her replacement, Amy Coney Barrett. This is a book that focuses on the most recent Supreme Court justice, and what it means for our society. It was written by Linda Greenhouse who was an important reporter for The New York Times before she retired.
