Gay Girl, Good God: The Story of Who I Was, and Who God Has Always Been Free Audiobook Download by Jackie Hill Perry

"I am a woman living in the world of masculinity," Hill Perry laments. "I am like a woman who wakes up in the middle of the night and can't find her way back to sleep, who then gets out of bed, turns on all the lights, goes into another room and starts looking for her husband."

"Gay Girl, Good God" by Jackie Hill Perry is a memoir that chronicles the author's life from her childhood in rural North Carolina to her present-day life as a lesbian Christian. The narrative consists of approximately 250 short chapters and begins with a recollection of when Hill Perry was about six years old and her mother's sermon on the story of Esther. Hill Perry also talks about how she found herself as a young girl peering through the doors of the house next door to see all the men coming in and out for a night of drinking and gambling. There are also many incidents throughout her life which help to paint a picture of who she is now.

In the beginning of her journey, she was unsure about where God was and felt like he wasn't there for her any longer. She also felt that she needed to change who she was in order to be a better woman for God. After working through some issues and figuring out who God is and what he wants from her, Hill Perry feels that she is finally able to follow his guidance.

This is such a beautifully-written book. It’s an honest account of a woman’s journey through her life, reflecting on the ups and downs that happen in your twenties. One thing I loved about this book was it didn’t just focus on the LGBTQ community but also discussed interracial dating, sexuality, and what it means to be human despite those differences.

Jackie Hill Perry is growing up in Memphis, Tennessee during the 1970s with a God who she knows to be good and just because she sees him in Scripture. In her story, Jackie shares how she was unsure of who she was and doesn't know that her relationship with God was real. That's why when people and circumstances begin to try to define her identity for her, it becomes difficult for her to know where to turn or recognize herself.

Gay Girl, Good God: The Story of Who I Was, and Who God Has Always Been is a biography about the author's personal journey to becoming a Christian. The book discusses her struggles with sexual identity and coming out as lesbian before her conversion.
