Extra Life: A Short History of Living Longer Free Audiobook Download by Steven Johnson

Extra life is a concept Steve Johnson likes, and so he tells his personal story of living longer. He has some interesting theories about how the world has figured out how to live longer, but some of his explanations are too vague for me.

Extra Life: A Short History of Living Longer is the story of how we have managed to live longer through two particular technologies. First, the invention of a controlled environment that would allow people to live in better health, and second, the discovery of a new way to record history that would allow us to see the past and take control over our own future.

Steven Johnson began this project by researching scientific studies that have been done on living longer. Johnson found out about the case study of a man who lived for 112 years! He was a Danish farmer who was born in 1828 and died in 1908. He also discovered that other people averaged about 15 more years of life than they did 100 years ago.

In "Extra Life," he describes the many ways in which people have attempted to conquer and win over death, from intensive care units to cloning.

There are plenty of stories in the world about people who have lived longer than expected. Many of these stories revolve around a single person, with their own particular take on what is going on. In this recording, Steven Johnson does an excellent job at telling the story of life expectancy in a single conversation and how we can live to be 100 years old.

Extra Life is a short history of living longer by Steven Johnson which was published in 2003. It is narrated by the author, and is read in his typical easy-to-listen, conversational style. The audiobook begins with an overview of the nature of life and death. It goes on to discuss some of early attempts at living longer through simple means such as fasting, then moves on to more scientific explanations for how our bodies age and why we die.
