Dead Man's Hand: Crime Fiction at the Poker Table Free Audiobook Download by Jeffrey Deaver,Alexander McCall Smith,Laura Lippman,Walter Mosley,Michael Connelly

The best poker players are always on the lookout for an edge. The game has changed a lot over the past decade, and some of it is because of changes made to the playing field itself. But even with advances in technology, humans still have an advantage in the game. One of those advantages is their ability to read facial expressions and body language.

The Dead Man's Hand is a mystery novel written by Walter Mosley and it was published in 1995. The novel follows Virgil Tibbs, an African-American detective who has been investigating the disappearance of a white man named Richard Hickock. The novel features a cast of characters that includes poker players and unlicensed gamblers, as well as members of the police force - including the protagonist, Virgil Tibbs; Captain Alphonse 'Happy' Quinn; Detective Slim Charles Brown; Bill Tuggle, who runs his own private investigation firm; and Louella Eaton, who works for Tuggle.

A poker game is about to start, but the casino's security chief has just been killed. Paul Madriani and his partner are forced to question everyone at the table, including a millionaire dealer who tries to bribe them....

Alexander McCall Smith and Walter Mosley write in a very different style than the other authors. McCall Smith is a master of the comedic aspect of writing, while Mosley has a knack for suspenseful thrillers. Connelly’s crime fiction is the most violent and action-packed, with multiple plots, but he often focuses on a single protagonist. Lippman writes stories that are almost like podcasts between her characters. It is this variety that makes Dead Man’s Hand: Crime Fiction at the Poker Table such a great read!

This audiobook is a collection of short stories originally published in the 'Dead Man's Hand' series. The stories span the gambit of detectives, killers, and other colorful characters at the poker table. Each story offers a different perspective on crime, as seen through the eyes of different characters. Longtime fans of Alexander McCall Smith will recognize some familiar faces from previous stories in his 'No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency' series. The style and feel of these stories are immediately recognizable to readers of that previous series, but this is still a new world for those unfamiliar with these authors and their work.

Keith Sellon-Wright reads Alexander McCall Smith's Dead Man's Hand: Crime Fiction at the Poker Table, which is a collection of stories about gambling and crime. Some of the stories are told through the eyes of professional poker players and some by their friends and family. The stories take place in different locations throughout the world. A highlight is listening to Gail Shalan read aloud Walter Mosley's "Ace," which is about an African American man who has been taking bets on his own life as he makes his way through life.
