Coming Home to Island House Free Audiobook Download by Erica James
When you purchase an audiobook from anywhere on the internet, you will see a link that allows you to listen to it for free. This is what I did for this blog entry. I listened to the first few chapters of Coming Home to Island House before buying the audiobook. This helped me decide that I wanted to purchase the book and continue listening to it.
Jenny Funnell brings a crisp, yet warm, voice to this audiobook. You can hear the sadness in her words and that makes you feel like she is telling you the story of someone close to her that has died. I felt like some of the main points that were mentioned at the beginning and end of the book were glossed over too quickly.
Jacki is a successful photographer living in San Francisco who takes a spontaneous trip to the island of Ni'ihau with her best friend. She's determined to get back to her life and tells herself that she'll never come back. Shortly after arriving, Jacki falls in love with the house where she's renting and decides that could live there someday--but it won't be any time soon.
This audiobook is narrated by Jenny Funnell, who does a wonderful job of bringing this story to life. Her performance is well worth listening to, even if you don't read the book.
Jenny is a young British woman who left the U.K. after the death of her mother and eldest sister to escape their family home in the south of England. She arrives on the island where she grew up only to find that it's changed since her departure, and not for the better. Her sister has let down the house, which is now more dilapidated and in need of repair than ever before. What starts as a trip back home quickly becomes something else entirely when she encounters a stranger walking on one side of the road with nothing but an old guitar case and bag to protect himself and his cat from harsh weather conditions while families come home in their cars from summer vacations on the other side of the street.
Coming Home to Island House is an account of life in the Territory of New Guinea, first hand from a young woman who starts out as an anthropologist and ends up following her family back to their home in Queensland.
